Uta Raina

Acrylic paintings inspired by the beauty of everyday places.

Uta Raina with her painting at a gallery exhibition.

Uta Raina is a self-taught acrylic painter inspired by the landscapes and places she encounters in everyday life. Working primarily from her own photographs, she is drawn to moments of light, reflection, color, and shadow that transform familiar surroundings. Her subjects range from local forests, rivers, and lakes to beaches and cityscapes. Through an intuitive painting process, her work explores the beauty found in ordinary places and invites viewers to slow down, look more closely, and rediscover the landscapes that surround them.

From the Artist

I came to art in a very unorthodox way. I didn't go to art school, and the only art class I ever took was a six-week course at an art center while in college. Although I had always loved art—I grew up visiting art museums all over Europe and thinking about art a lot—I never imagined that I would become an artist myself.

About fifteen years ago, when we were living in Denmark, my older daughter, who was eight or nine at the time, wanted to attend an art camp and learn how to paint on canvas. I couldn't find a camp for her, so I told her we could simply do it together.

For a few weeks that summer, we painted every day. She enjoyed it, but after a while she was ready to move on to other things. I, in contrast, loved it.

And I never stopped painting.
